Dr. Sarah F. Andres is a Portland native who did her Ph.D. work at UNC-Chapel Hill and her postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Andres is passionate about mentoring the next generation of innovators while studying biological communication. Her work aims to understand how cells of the intestine and colon talk to one another in health and disease.  She enjoys sharing her work and love of science with others, including trainees, other scientists, and the public. She is also an avid athlete and loves to explore the PNW with her husband and two sons.

Claire Yung was born and raised in Fremont, California and completed their Bachelor’s of Arts in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology with Honors at Lewis and Clark College. In college, their thesis work focused on understanding the binding interactions between the motor protein dynein, and its binding partner dynactin. Claire enjoys cooking, reading, and playing computer games in their free time.

Madeline (Maddy) Kuhn was born and raised in Portland Oregon and completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology with a Minor in Chemistry at Oregon State University. During her college career she’s worked in several research labs at OHSU with faculty such as Dr. Bradley Tebo and Dr. Fikadu Tafesse. She’s excited to delve into the immense field of gut research and contribute to its advancements. Madeline likes to hike, bake scones and take care of her many plants in her free time.

Yang was born and raised in Shenyang, China and completed her Doctoral degree in Nutrition with a Minor in Biological Data Science at Oregon State University. During her graduate school years, she worked on several research projects trying to understand how xanthohumol works to counter diet-induced metabolic syndromes including obesity and type 2 diabetes. In her free time Yang enjoys competing in computer games.
